CapriGem is our herd name, we are located in Western Pennsylvania (Venango County), Polk, PA to be a little more exact.
We raise Registered Nigerian Dwarf Goats. They are miniature dairy goats with a lot of personality. They can be kept on less land and are easier to handle than standard (larger) dairy goat breeds.
"The Nigerian Dwarf is a miniature breed of dairy goat originating in West Africa and developed in the United States. The balanced proportions of the Nigerian Dwarf give it the appearance of the larger breeds of dairy goats, but does stand no more than 22.5" (57 cm) and bucks no more than 23.5" (60 cm). Any color or combination of colors is acceptable. The medium length ears are erect and alert. The face is either straight or dished, and the hair is short and fine." - from ADGA website . Nigerian Breed Standard
We love having fresh goat milk. It tastes great. I have made fudge that was fantastic, and hope to make cheese soon. Yum!
We milk our does throughout the year. We bottle raise all kids.
We also show both does and bucks at several ADGA shows every year. Plus we also Linear Appraise almost every year.
We are pleased to announce that our entire Nigerian Dwarf Goat herd tested CAE Negative -October 2011
